"A Million Rays of Light and Hope"

Spring is in the air in Northern Ireland

  By Sarah-Jayne

Spring is in the air.  Flowers growing everywhere.  The days are getting longer and children have lots more time to play before it gets dark.  Everyone is happy when Spring comes around as Winter is over and it starts to become warmer.  The bees are buzzing and the sheep will soon have their babies.  The weather will be better, I hope!  Easter is in Spring as well.  Lots and lots of chocolate eggs.  Everybody enjoys chocolate Easter eggs in big boxes. The Easter bunny runs around hiding the eggs from all the children who have to find them. Daffodils and tulips will bloom and the signs of new life are all around. Daddy doesn’t like Spring because he has to cut the grass and tidy the garden every week. Mummy likes Spring because Spring fashions come out and sometimes she buys so much stuff that she has to borrow some of daddy’s money.  In Spring my friends and I take our bicycles out of our garages and go for long rides down country roads.  I enjoy Spring also because when we go horse riding we can take the ponies out into the field, we also go for pony hacks along the country lanes.  If the weather is fine we sometimes take a picnic to the park and feed the ducks with left over bread.  My cat Ebony loves the Spring as he likes to stretch out in the garden under a tree and sleep.  I love Spring because it signals the end  of winter and heralds the start of my favourite season SUMMER.

We can all feel that the warm and bubbly spring is coming with lots of changes.  Some of these changes are that it’s getting warmer and brighter as the days drift nearer to March.  I love all the seasons especially spring, because it is a time when little fluffy chicks are born and other animals come out of hibernation.  In May the last month of spring the roses come out.  Roses aren’t the only flowers that come out; some of the other flowers that come out in spring are daffodils, primroses, buttercups and bluebells.
Spring is a very busy month for farmers because it is lambing season for them.  It is also very busy for birds because they have to find a mate, make a nest and look after their tiny baby birds.  Many of the birds are coming back from their migration.  Not all birds migrate, some stay here all winter like the robin, blue tit and the blackbird.  Bare trees slowly start to get their leaves back.  First the buds come in spring and then they develop into leaves that are many beautiful shades of green.  Spring isn’t all sunshine, as we sometimes get showers in April.

Chicks and rabbits are both signs of re-birth.  In the nice fresh morning the little field mice are out scurrying about in the newly cut grass.  There are not as many clouds about so in the morning we can feel the rays of the warm and dazzling sun shining on us.

I can sense that Spring is coming because there is more warmth in the air, the days are getting longer and the flowers are starting to grow. Spring is one of the most loveliest times of the year, animals are being born and it is such a beautiful sight. I like all the seasons but I would have to say Spring is my favourite. Two of my favourite animals are born in Spring, lambs and chicks, I think they are lovely. Spring is also a time when some animals come out of hibernation like hedgehogs. In May, the last month of Spring roses start to come out, they smell nice but I don’t like their thorns. The Himalayan Mountains must be lovely at this time of year. I hope your weather has started to get warmer and like me, you are now able to go outside and play.

One day I woke up, got out of bed and went to the window and looked out. It was the last day of winter. I was sad because there would not be anymore snow. I got on some lovely warm clothes and went downstairs to get my breakfast. After I had finished, I put my shoes on and went outside. I noticed spring had started. All the buds on the trees and bushes had started to open and in the field in front of me I could see a pony and its mother galloping around in the tall green grass.

I saw a rose bush and went over, and picked the reddest and prettiest flower on that whole bush and I thought about my friends in Nepal and how they are each a rose on a different bush. I turned around and was about to go inside, when I heard a bleating sound. I walked around the garden trying to find where it came from. I went to a bush where I thought it came from. When I pulled the branches apart and looked in I saw a baby lamb lying on a pile of leaves. Its coat of fur was as white as snow. I bent down and lifted it up and it was really soft and fluffy. As carefully as I could I carried it to the step and sat down. Even if I could not keep it I wanted to name it anyway and I called it “Spring”.

Spring was a lovely lamb and I really wanted to keep it for ever and ever. but I wondered where the lamb had come from. I then took the lamb inside and looked after it.

What ever the season is you can always tell which season it is and all you have to do is step outside. One Saturday afternoon I was so bored I went to my main nature park. While I was walking through the park I felt a little breeze go past me but I knew it wasn’t summer because that was last year but the sun was out in the sky and it wasn’t cold.

All that day I was wondering what season it was but I was not going to ask anyone because I wanted to find out for myself. The next day my mum and me had to go for a drive through the countryside. While we were driving on the road I looked into a field and saw five little newborn lambs learning how to stand up. When we arrived at a big field we got out of the car we had to walk. While I was walking I felt the same breeze I felt at the park. Then I saw the most beautiful and the most wonderful flowers. My mum said what beautiful flowers they are. I just was amazed and I just kept looking because I had never seen anything more beautiful before in my life. Then I thought for a moment then I thought again and then I might have just found out what season it was and it was spring then I said spring is in the air.

In the bright, beautiful, crisp, dew, glistening hills is where the lovely wonderous, colourful flowers pop out in various shapes, sizes and colours.  But up there in those bright, beautiful, crisp, dew, glistening hills that’s not all that happens because newly born fluffy, white adorable, happily playing little lambs are prancing dancing and leaping over the amazing scenery of those rocky, green, peaceful, flowery, woodland Spring time pastoral culture landscaped hills.  The days are getting lighter and the sun is shining brighter.  The lovely sun comes out from behind the clouds so grey and the people down on earth praise God for another lovely spring day.  The birds are singing chirpy songs glad to see some spring sun at last.  Although the sky is bleak I really want to sneak out at night to look at the peak of the hill burning bright!

One bright Spring morning I woke up to smell the sweet, crisp smell of the spring air. I went outside and walked happily along the path singing:

  Spring is in the air

Everywhere

Spring is in the air

Around every corner and up every street

Spring is in the air

Up and down everywhere.

While I was walking I saw a beehive with swarms of bees coming out of a narrow, black hole. They were flying to a patch of flowers. There were all sorts of flowers including  little daisies to big tall yellow sunflowers. The bees moved around the patches in clusters then more swarms of bees came out of the hive. Soon all the brightly coloured flower patches were turned into dull black and yellow stripes. Then I walked on to see some blue tits chirping a song and some hedgehogs were awakening from hibernation. I walked into school to learn things. When I walked into the classroom there was an e-mail from Nepal. It was a beautiful e-mail from my friends in Nepal. Then it was home time and I was expecting another e-mail to come from my friends tomorrow.

Spring is in the air how sweet the sound with all little the birds singing all around.  The daylight is increasing from the start of Spring and end.  Oh! How sweet the poetry comes from the mouths of children and adults.  The trees that blow within the breeze, the smell of fresh new air, of Spring.  It is like a new year but it is three months of fresh air and some beautiful breezes with the beautiful Spring air.  In the past three months the air has not been as fresh and the days have not been brighter but now that we are in Spring the air is twice as fresh and twice as bright.  Do you hear that whistle of a breeze coming through the trees and through the sides of the window.  The bulbs are coming out and the lambs are being born and the rainbows are getting brighter after it rains.  People are getting better from the flu which they had in the Winter and they are brightening up by going to school.

Spring is with Northern Ireland now

Lambs are being born during this lovely time.

Birds are busy building their nest so that they can lay their eggs.

The flowers are pushing through the ground soon you will see lovely colours red, yellow and all the rest of the beautiful colours of spring time. In Northern Ireland people like to have a spring clean in their house. Spring has come once again to all of us in Northern Ireland. Roses are beautiful and smell so fresh, just like our friends in Nepal. All the animals that has been in hibernation will now awake from their long winter sleep.

The bare trees will get their lovely green leaves back.

You can feel the heat from the spring sun but also we can have lots of Spring showers.

One spring morning Jim woke up to see the lovely flowers and lambs. What a wonderful day it will be sitting at the window side watching the birds coming to feed, eating the nuts that I had put out that night. Its so exciting to see the flowers coming from a bulb. I thought to myself and wondered where that little bird came from, then I was called by my Mum, I slowly walked down the stairs, and that minute my Mum had looked out of the window to see the bulbs coming up straight from the soil. It is amazing how fast they can grow, only one week ago I had planted them. I then sat down on the seat and had my breakfast and I ate every bit of it, I was so hungry. I ran as fast as I could up the stairs and got changed into my new clothes I had got on Friday, I ran back down the stairs and went outside, it was a cold morning, very chilly. I went around to the side of the house and got my bike and cycled down the road with my warm woolly hat on. I was going over to my friends house, he just lives down the road, his Dad had got a new machine for lifting leaves that are stuck where you can not reach, he had bought that for all the dead leaves in the garden. Joe’s Dad showed Jim how it worked, it was wonderful the way it lifted all the dead leaves. After that Joe came with me, we then went to my house were we had hot chocolate and lovely biscuits. Then we went up to my room and watched the birds coming to feed at the bird tray, Joe said have you got any bulbs? Yes we do I planted some and my Mum planted some as well, they look magnificent. Have you planted any? My Mum did not let me because it was very cold and windy the day she was planting hers, I really wanted to help but it was far to cold. Then Joe went home, I then got my tea, and it was very filling and warmed me up.
