The purpose of the visit to Bath and Bristol was to further two projects in Nepal and Belarus.

Following a growing friendship with Ms. Sabah Abdullah, a resident tutor, at Bath University, Sabah had a desire to support the Metta Centre in Nepal. Sabah organised a sponsored fast and cake sale which raised sufficient funding to make a very positive contribution to the lifestyles and educational requirements of the children in the home. This money will be forwarded to the centre in stages to allow for the purchases to take place as short term objectives.

I also met with the students’ union president, David Austin to make a presentation of large batik from the children in Nepal to the students’ union. David was interested in many of the aspects of A Ray of Hope and it will pleasing to see our relationship develop with Bath University. There will be undoubtedly reciprocal assistance in the months to come- which we will welcome.

Cimg4625.jpgThe visit to Bristol Zoo Gardens was both interesting and informative. Our project in Belarus demands a high degree of expertise in the management of a forest area and the development of an ecological plan. Bristol Zoo Gardens has this experience in abundance and is notable for its endangered animals breeding programmes. It was a pleasure to have been in the company of the very dedicated Curator of Animals, Mr. John Partridge. John gave us a guided tour and a close up encounter with the Livingstone fruit bats. This involvement with Bristol Zoo Gardens will add an important dimension to the development of the eco-tourism project in Belarus and will demonstrate that there is a strong knowledge base for our project to develop from.

My sincere thanks to Sabah, John and David for making the visit so enlightening and productive.
