At  present  Gayaaza Parish community has  approximately 7,000 orphans (53% girls and 47 boys) disregarding  religious or tribal identities (CASSO Baseline study on foster-homes and Orphans, 2003).Regarding  basic care,  the  orphans are supported by care-givers who are  either  their  surviving single parents ( widows or widowers) or foster-parents ( guardians). The number of widows  is  about four times that of widowers. The age structure of widows range from  18 to  60 years. The Guardians are over 500.  38% are between 20 to 45 years.  31%  are  45  to 60 years  and  31% are  60  to 100 years. This number provide support to two categories of orphans: those abandoned by their  single  surviving  parents  ( widows or widowers)  and those who have lost both parents.  30% of orphans are double-orphans.
